Chuck is the Strength Coach at CST. He draws on thirty-plus years of coaching and competitive powerlifting experience in helping his clients achieve their goals.
As a competitor, he has totaled Elite in both the 198- and 220-pound weight classes. He also holds the prestigious Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist credential from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Chuck’s minimalistic approach to strength training focuses primarily on perfecting technique on the classic barbell lifts and closely related variations. “Every rep should look identical” is a mantra he repeats often. These core lifts are trained according to carefully planned training cycles that typically call for low to medium volume and frequency combined with a slow but steady rate of progression.
Two primary mentors have heavily influenced this approach. Marty Gallagher, trainer of elite athletes and author of The Purposeful Primitive, was Chuck’s coach and training partner for 15 years. Together, they held many training seminars for diverse groups, including military special forces personnel, competitive athletes, trainers, and the general public.
Stuart McRobert, author of several strength training books, has provided guidance since before Chuck began contributing training articles to HARDGAINER magazine in the mid-1990s. Chuck's first book, Inside the Mind of an Iron Icon, is a comprehensive interview of McRobert for which Gallagher wrote the foreword.
Chuck shares his strength training knowledge and experience widely. He writes articles for Elitefts (e.g. Inside the Mind of Stuart McRobert, Fun is for Children) and has been featured in interviews on the Natural Strength Night and Strong Arguments podcasts.
